Day of the Dead celebration is a holiday celebrating life and focuses on honoring the dead through traditions, food, decoration, and activities with the intention of maintaining connection between the living and the dead. This holiday originated in Mexico and the celebrations begin on the last days of October, concluding on the 2nd day of November. In addition to all of the fun traditional activities we will also have a community ofrenda. Ofrenda, meaning offering in Spanish, is a unique part of the Day of the Dead celebrations. This tiered table is traditionally covered with a decorative cloth filled with pictures of passed loved ones along with offerings such as food, water, toys, etc. These gifts are left to help loved ones pass on peacefully and make their journey back and forth easier. We will be opening up a form this week for people to submit photos and bios of their loved ones for our ofrenda.
